What do you think of the Standard Strat? Is it worth trading in my Ibanez GAX70? I wouldn't have to pay anything cause it was a bday present and my mom said it was okay. So is it worth it or not? I use a Marshall MG 15CDR Amp if you were wondering.

standard FENDER strat? mexican or american? doesn't matter...it would be better than a GAX70, but might not be the sound you're looking for, as it uses single coils.

there's two kinds of strats, Squier( cheap fender ), and Fender( the real deal ), when talking about Fenders you may see references to MIM or MIA strats, MIM is made in mexico, so it's less expensive, MIA is made in america so it's more expensive, and probably higher quality.

hmmm...not to start an argument but...the gax70 is a mainstay of the ibanez line and a solid performer-especially for someone new to the guitar world and not a poor choice as a humbucker model keeper if on a limited budget such as a student or young married person...the ibanez line has some pretty heavy hitters that like the ibanez guitar....joe satriani-george benson-steve vai-china-boz skaggs...here's a list of others-->

the standard stRAT isn't necessarily a bad choice if its the sound of single coils you want--i personally prefer the fullness of humbuckers nowadays---perhaps a good choice would be a standard fat stRAT for only $50. more than a regular standard stRAT-has two singles AND a humbucker.....but be aware of the possibility of never ending tuning issues with a tremelo equipped guitar-stRAT or otherwise !! Cool

well, i prefer strat to a gax70, the gax70 neck seems too...clonky, just isn't smooth in my opinion compared to a strat, and i dislike the sound of their stock pickups, but i'm sure other people would disagree.

Well I forgot to mention I could trade it in for anything under $350. Does that make a difference? I just thought the stratocaster would be best.

You can probably find a MIM Strat for between $325 - $375 (not sure if they were new or used), depending on where you are looking and what sales they may have. I bought an American Strat. (new) over the weekend for ~$825 and I saw some MIM models for $365 at Sam Ash. Hope this helps.

Keep the Ibanez! Fender products are nothing but S-H-I-T!!! Ibanez makes some great guitars. I dont care if youre playing blues or metal, Fender doesnt make guitars worth buying anymore. I hate their necks and pickups. DO NOT buy a Fender!!!

Snowboy,
You, my friend, are in the small, very small minority in your opinions of Fender guitars. Fender guitars are the most used and most copied guitars in the world and always have been. You're entitled to your opinion. It's a free country. That means you're allowed to enjoy your Ibanez and we are allowed to enjoy our Fenders.

I had an Ibanez Sound Gear bass. It was crapola. I also had an Ibanez acoustic. Junk. After that I didn't waste my time or money experimenting with Ibanez electric guitars. I returned to the real thing, Fender.

Marshall0092,
At least one Strat belongs in every guitarist's collection. It is the most commonly used guitar on the planet. Whether you trade your Ibanez for one is up to you.

trading your guitar will not make you a better player. Both the guitars you mentioned should be ok.
