| Ive got a Clapton Edition Strat and I love it, but the vintage frets just buzz too much for my taste. I was wondering if I can have them replaced with normal medium Jumbo frets or something comparable? |

the frets aren't the problem---the set-up is !!!..that is, if you are doing your job of properly holding the strings down directly behind the fret with the required amount of pressure !!!....if so..take your guitar to a reputable guitar tech & have the guitar set-up properly to specs--tell the tech what the problem is & he will adjust the neck-string height, etc. and the problem with the buzzing will disapear.--good luck--let us know the outcome. |

---if that doesn't solve your buzzing problem....then YES you can have your guitar neck refretted--it will probably cost a small fortune...but a qualified luthier can do it for you----don't just take it anywhere...take it to a luthier that has done this before--in other words, your local guitar center mega store is NOT the place for this operation in my opinion. |

| i will most definitly look into the setup, thankyou very much; in response, if this helps. i have had it adjusted for intonation by a luthier where it buzzed every bit as much after and he said nothing about the buzzing |

Normally, if Fret(s) are Buzzing, that means one of 3 things;
1) The Action is set too Low
>So You gotta raise the action a little to get rid of the "Buzz"
2) The Neck is Bent
> This happened to my '88 Mexican Std Stratocaster & I actually fixed this by cutting all the strings off & Cranking the *Darn This Censor - I Should Have Just Written "Poo"* out of the Truss Rod
3) You have a Dead Fret or Dead Fret(s)
> Once again, I experienced this on my white 2k3 Mexican Std. Fender Telecaster...I fixed this by going to my father's work bench (he's an Electrical Engineer who deals primarily in electronics, so he has A F*CKIN TON of Tiny little tools) & I Stole (or "borrowed" actually...) a Small File & I found the fret that was Muting the High-E string (it was the 3rd fret) & I filed it down until it was "clean" so-to-speak
to be completely honest with you, one of my Father's guitars is a 1994 (first production session) Stevie Ray Vaughan "Number 1" Signature Series Stratocaster (which was like $1,300 in '94) & he went to every guitar store for 100 Miles around Boston, & he went through 6 of them in different shops until he settled on one (in Sekonk, MA which was like an hour & a half away from my house & we had to cut into Rhode Island twice to get there...) & the first one there that he grabbed, he got all ready to buy it, put it in the case to buy it & notices a 3" chunk out of the *Golly Gee* body & he Flipped out & screamed "WHOOOOAH-WHOOOOOOOOAH, WHAT THE *Golly Gee* IS THIS?!?" in the middle of uuuuh I think it was EU-Wurlitzer's music & then the guy went in the back & got one that he said that he was going to save for someone who worked there or something & my dad was like [took out the $1,300 & Waved it in front of his face] & he was like "How's that? still Smell like you wanna keep it for someone??" & he looked at it, made sure there was no huge bites out of the body & he bought it, BUT to get back to what I was saying (sorry...Brain-Injured-Moment...) the Neck on that Strat got bent one time after a gig he played out in the rain in July of '97 at like a VFW fund raiser or benifit or some *Darn This Censor - I Should Have Just Written "Poo"*... & he brought it to Center Music in Framinham, MA, they straightened it as best they could, but it's never been quite right since then, AND the Stevie Ray Vaughan SRV No. 1 Strat has a Neck that's made out of some real rare wood from some Mexican Redwood tree or something & they don't produces that neck for anything but the SRV No 1 Stratocaster... |
