I just made the spontaneous decision to start playing before it's too late for me. My birthday is today, the 2nd of September, so I have some money to buy a guitar. No not enough to completely pay for a quality guitar, but enough to start a payment plan.
Problem is, I can't afford a lot in life, let alone lessons. An opportunity to learn for free in an acoustic guitar group at school just came about. I'd rather play electric guitar to emulate the rock music I love. ( grunge, alternative, some heavy/metal rock)
So my question is: Can you practice "acoustically" on an electric guitar. Because I would have to to get the free lessons. Second, what's a great bang for the buck beginner's guitar. I don't know the reputations of the guitar making brands as I do brands for shoes, electronics, etc. So it would be very much appreciated if someone would tell me what manufacturers they believe are the best.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I am in need to quickly make a purchase and begin practicing a new passion. Thanks |

| that actuallt depends on how much money yer have right now cause im not sure what the price is there in the USA..my 1st guitar was a hamer a really sucky one..now im using an Ibanez....Well 1st guitar really isnt that important and ul probably jus want to buy a cheap one either Ibanez or LTD.u could look at the LTD M series ..reason is because even though u know what ul be liking to play and all..u dont know how to evaluate a guitar for whats its worth or evaluate a guitar according to ur liking as yer still new(like some ppl tend to like neck through guitar etc floating bridge etc cause of preference)..so i'd say jus get a really cheap guitar at start ..and when u slowly progress ul know what to pick urself...=) |

I would suggest a Yamaha starter pack(500$) or a Squire(100-200$). I have a yamaha and have played a Squire and they are pretty good for starter packages.
Yes you can play acoustically. You have to buy an acoustic simulator stompbox or a modeling processor. I have a Digi-tech RP-80 and it works wonders.
Reply when you buy your guitar.
Hope I helped,
