Does anyone have any advice on what pickups I should get for my Strat (MIA)? I don't know if they make one for my preference, but I'm looking for something that would preserve or be close to stock Fender pickup sound when clean and very crunchy with distortion. Also, something that would get rid of single-coil hum but still be a single coil design.

You thought about going active, and adding the Eric Clapton style onboard electronics?

For silent pickups, Kinman.com, billlawrence.com or www.agi-lace.com hot golds are the usual suspects, so to speak.

check: http://www.tomgallo.net/fdp/ for hot gold tone comparison.

If you wish to keep your Fender guitar all Fender you could go with either the Vintage Noiseless or the Hot Noiseless.

The important thing to remember when asking others about pickups is that there are well over a hundred options to choose from and everyone has their own preference. You will hear this guy say "I only use such-and-such pickups because they're the best." And then somebody else will argue that those very same pickups are the absolute worst. Before you choose a different set of pups, try to educate yourself on what all the various terms mean. Log onto the Kinman site and study the tech info he's got there. His pups are usually quite pricey but they are of good quality. Try to put aside the propaganda and concentrate on the actual factual data. Lots of folks love his pups but that doesn't mean he's the only guy selling good pups. Also try to see patterns in the types of well known players that you admire and the pups they select.

In other words, do lots of research.

There are many custom makers (and of course kinman billlawrence etc will make custom pickups too) out there, everybody claiming they have what it takes. http://www.wolfetone.com/ is one the FenderTalk-crowd seem to root for, have not dealt with him, so I don't know. The plain vanilla Duncans and Fenders are good tone, IMO.

Sindlei,

As I become more and more familiar with the regular posters here at Guitar Forum I'm beginning to get this picture of you as a shred master.

How close am I?

Thanks,
I find it helpful when reading various comments to understand the motivation, if you will, or at least the musical taste of the person doing the commenting. It helps me understand WHY there might be a difference of opinion.

Thanx again.
