| i currently own a boss md-2 mega distortion. im thinking about selling it because i dont like the sound of it. i want a "nirvana" type sound. a few people have suggested ds-1 and a few have suggested the ds-2. which should i get, and what are the pros and cons of each? |

Cobain used DS-2.
Other than that, IMHO, The MD-2 sucks. The MT-2 may be ok to try an make a small amp sound big, but I am not fond of it either. I own a number of BOSS distortions and overdrives.
I personal like the DS-2 over the DS-1. The 1 sounds thin to me. I kept my 2 on the board, and dumped the DS-1 and MT-2. I have heard good things about modded DS-1, so I may send mine off to Robery Keeley and see what happens.
I use mode one on the DS-2, and found no real desire to use the turbo setting.
I currently use, DS-2 for all distortion sounds, and it gets more than heavy enough for all my uses. Remember, large sounds does not alway mean more distortion. That is the problem with all of these mosquito buzzing hyper distortion boxes. (Like the Mega).
I use OD-3 for heavier Overdrive, and the BD-2 for boost or light blues overdrive. There are many other brands to achieve these goals, but sticking to BOSS for this conversation, I have been very happy with these. The SD-1 is nice too, but eclipsed by the OD-3 IMO. |
