I'm looking to really dive into this genre, and I want to buy an instrument that has got the sound to back it up. A friend of mine at umgd gave me an album called Joya by Funky C. I really like what he does on guitar and I want to emulate it.

Im not much of a guitar guru yet, im pretty much self taught with a few solid months in me, but ive got an acoustic and i like to play a lot of jazz/funk stuff too. Ive found though, that its pretty hard to come up with really good rythms without a bass groove playin in the background. I just try keeping the notes really clean, and playing a lot of ninth chords. Even though most people say bump the 7ths up to 9ths, i really like playing the B7 chord shape all up and down the fretboard. I dont have much advice on equipment, because like i said im fairly new
